A Feline Favourite In Telford

A group of Shropshire performers are proving such feline favourites they have had to add an extra show to their production of the famous musical CATS.

The Arts Centre Telford (TACT) were originally due to stage four performances over Saturday and Sunday, January 27 and 28, but now have had to add Friday night to the run after the show proved a sell-out success.

The talented youngsters have been in rehearsals since September and are now in the final stages of perfecting the show.

Director of Music at TACT Ross Doodson said they were delighted at the response to the show which will feature a professional orchestra and ambitious staging.

“The cast and crew have been working so hard to bring West End standards to Shropshire and I believe this is the show on the Shropshire calendar this year not to be missed,” he added.

More than 100 youngsters will be taking part aged from 8 to 18.

Cats, one of the biggest hits and longest-running musicals in musical theatre history, has been presented in over 30 countries, translated into 15 languages, and seen by more than 73 million people worldwide.

Mr Doodson said it had been exciting for the TACT team to take on a show with such an impressive worldwide reputation but that they had relished the challenge of putting their own stamp on the show.

“We did Les Miserables last year to packed theatre audiences and it was widely praised for being way beyond the standard people would expect from a show staged outside the big cities. But we are committed to providing the very best that arts has to offer here in Shropshire and that not only includes the training available to young people but also the shows that people come to see.

“We always strive to keep on improving and know that those who come to see Cats will be in for a magical night, a real feast of musical theatre at its best.”
